The tiny pup’s life in Newcastle is a far cry from where he started out.

Zeppelin’s owners Anavi Veras and Luke Pirrecafound him neglected on the side of the road when teaching in Laos. The couple said the pup was hurt, hungry and very timid. After being abandoned, Zeppelin’s early days on the streets had left him traumatised and fearful of humans.

With a lot of care he soon bounced back and quickly became a member of the Led Zeppelin-loving family. When it was time for the trio to move to Australia the real adventure started.

Zeppelin went through Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and a long road trip from Melbourne to eventually arrive in Newcastle.

“He has travelled more countries than Luke,” Ms Veras said.

It was this amazing journey which won the attention of judges at theMad Paws’ NSW Dog of the Year awards.

“We are absolutely thrilled,” Ms Veras said.

“Zeppelin has been an inspiration to show how traumatised dogs can slowly recover and settle into a new life and home.”

Zeppelin missed out on the national award, which went to Jack the golden retriever who saved the lives of his family during a fire.

Zeppelin is one of many amazing dogs in the Hunter.
